CITY OF WAUPUN DECLARES SNOW EMERGENCY EMERGENCY
IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT, JANUARY 28, UNTIL 7 AM ON TUESDAY, JANUARY 29
Waupun, Wis. –The City of Waupun has declared a snow emergency beginning at midnight, Monday, January 28, 2019 through 7 a.m. Tuesday, January 29, 2019 based on the National Weather Service in Sullivan’s winter storm warning and expected hazardous weather conditions. Under a snow emergency (Section 7.10), parking is prohibited at all times on the south, east and southeast sides of all streets in the City, expect for commercial areas along Main Street from Commercial to Carrington Streets; Madison Street from Franklin to Olmstead Streets; Fond du Lac Street from Franklin to Main Streets; Carrington Street from Main to Brown Streets; and portions of any street where parking is already limited to only one side. In addition, Winter Parking restrictions are in effect for overnight parking which prohibits parking on any street or alley in the City of Waupun between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. on any day when there has been an accumulated snowfall of 2 inches or more.
Department of Public Works employees will be working on snow removal for the duration of the storm and Waupun Police Department will patrol. However, road conditions are expected to deteriorate and residents are urged to stay off the roads if at all possible.
City Emergency Management personnel are closely monitoring the weather conditions and will continue to provide updates with any closures and hazards. Dangerously low temperatures are forecasted for much of the state following this storm. Fond du Lac County announced late last week that there will be a warming shelter located at the Salvation Army; address 237 N Macy Street, Fond du Lac, open from 6 PM to 8 AM every day for individuals 18 and older. The City of Waupun is currently evaluating the need for a warming shelter in the community and will be posting an update on Monday, January 28, 2019. Residents needing emergency shelter are urged to call 211 for resources.
