City Staff Update on Extreme Weather Conditions

The Department of Public Works reports that crews have been working overnight on snow removal. DPW crews will return at 1 a.m. on Tuesday to plow streets, and clear building lots and sidewalks. Garbage collection will begin on Tuesday, 1/29/19, with normally scheduled services running one day behind for the entire week. The snow emergency and overnight parking restrictions remain in effect through Tuesday morning.
At this time, City Emergency Management staff continue to evaluate the need for a warming shelter in the community and will post further updates on Tuesday, 1/29/19. The National Weather Service in Sullivan has issued a wind chill advisory from 4 am to 6 pm on Tuesday, 1/29/19. Very cold wind chills will develop late tonight and persist through Tuesday afternoon. Wind chills of 20 to 35 below zero are expected. A wind chill warning has been issued from 6 pm Tuesday, 1/29/19, through noon on Thursday, 1/31/19. Dangerous cold is expected with wind chills of 35 to 55 below zero expected. Please use precaution and check on your pets and your neighbors. Residents needing emergency shelter are urged to call 211 for resources.
