Property Taxes

The City of Waupun collects taxes for the City, the Waupun Area School District, Dodge and Fond du Lac County, and Moraine Park Technical College. Property tax bills are mailed in December after passage of the City budget. The city collects tax payments in December and January of each year and sends a share of the collections to the other jurisdictions. Remit Tax Payments

PRIOR TO JANUARY 31: Remit payment, payable to the City of Waupun

AFTER JANUARY 31: Remit payment to the County

There are several ways to pay the City of Waupun:

  1. Pay Online prior to 11:59pm, Wednesday, January 22, 2025 with eChecking, eSavings, or by credit/debit card. (This feature will be disabled 12:00am, Thursday, January 23, 2025).   

  2. By Mail:  Send a check to City of Waupun, Attn: City Clerk/Treasurer, 201 E Main Street, Waupun, WI 53963. The envelope must be postmarked by the due date.

  3. By Drop Box:  Property tax payments may be placed in the Drop Box inside the City Hall entrance on Forest Street. The Drop Box is accessible 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
  4. In Person:  City staff is available 7:00am-4:00pm Monday thru Thursday and 7:00am-11am Friday (excluding holidays) at 201 E Main St., Waupun.  
  • City Hall will be closed: For your convenience, the drop box is always available.

    •  Wednesday, December 25, 2024
    •  Tuesday, December 31, 2024
    • Wednesday, January 1, 2025. The following working day, payments placed in the drop box will be processed as December 31st if designated. If you have an escrow check and a refund is due, a check will be mailed.

Important Reminders: Be sure to include your Parcel Identification Number on the check’s memo line and attach your property tax payment stub(s). If you require a receipt please include a self-addressed stamped return envelope. 

Payments made after January 31st should be made payable to the County Treasurer.

Tax Rates

The 2024 net tax year mill rate is $17.700 (Dodge County) and $18.685 (Fond du Lac County) per $1,000 of property value.

What is the lottery credit?

A credit that provides direct property tax relief to qualifying taxpayers on their property tax bills. Lottery proceeds are paid into a separate segregated state fund. The lottery credit is displayed on tax bills as a reduction of property taxes due

 Do I qualification to receive the lottery credit?
You must be a WI resident, own a dwelling and use it as your primary residence as of the January 1 certification date of the year the property taxes are levied.

If you are temporarily absent, typically for a period no longer than six months (ex: hospital, vacation, incarcerated), the primary residence is the home where the owner returns. Principal dwelling means any dwelling the owner of the dwelling uses as his/her primary residence.

You may claim only one primary residence. You cannot claim the lottery and gaming credit on business property, rental units, vacant land, garages or other property that is not the owner's primary residence.
