Waupun Community Fund Created

Waupun Community Fund

Greetings!  At our December 11, 2021 meeting, the Common Council took action to create the Waupun Community Fund.  The fund provides a way for individuals to contribute financially to various initiatives within the city that improve quality of life and build community.  The fund will be managed through a partnership with the Fond du Lac Area Foundation, an organization that provides similar oversight for community funds for Fond du Lac, Beaver Dam, Oakfield and various non-profits.  The Fond du Lac Area Foundation will handle the administrative details, ensuring that funds donated to the Waupun Community Fund are managed and dispersed in accordance with all laws and policies.  Over my time as Mayor, City of Waupun residents have always supported a variety of fundraising efforts within the community.  Most recently, this has included ad-hoc fundraising to replace trees in public spaces and more recently for the installation of an ADA accessible canoe and kayak launch at Shaler Park.   While project specific fundraising has worked, residents have asked for a more permanent way to give back to the community.  The creation of the Waupun Community Fund achieves this.  The fund is made possible by an initial donation from a local businessman.  There will be a local Advisory Board established to oversee fund management and utilization.  If you are interested in serving or wish to know more, please contact Kathy Schlieve at City Hall by calling 920.324.7912.  The Waupun Community Fund is now able to accept tax-deductible charitable donations.  Additional community projects seeking funding include the creation of an all-inclusive playground at Wilcox Park, the addition of a rock climbing wall at the aquatic center, ADA improvements to the Veteran’s Memorial at Shaler Park, and more.  Checks can be written to the Waupun Community Fund and mailed to Fond du Lac Area Foundation, 1020 S Main Street, Suite E, Fond du Lac, WI 54935.

Around town, Waupun Area School District is currently offering free rapid COVID testing every week.    Tests are administered on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Visit Waupun.k12.wi.us/page/covid-19-information for more information. The 2022 Garbage & Recycling Schedule has been posted on the City's website; there are also refrigerator magnets that include this information available in the City Hall main vestibule for pickup.  To pay your property taxes, you can pay online, by mail, via the drop box available at City Hall’s main entrance off Forest Street, or in person between the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday, with the exception of holiday closures, which include December 23, 24, and 31, 2021 as well as on January 3, 2022.  Please note that City Hall is not open for in-person payments on New Year’s Eve, however, the drop box is always available and your payment will be processed on December 31, 2021 if placed in the drop box by 11:59 p.m. that day.  If you have an escrow check and a refund is due, a check will be mailed.

Happy Holidays!  I hope to see you soon Waupun!
