Mayor's Update March 6, 2021

Mayor Julie Nickel

Greetings!  Last November, the City partnered with Waupun’s Business Improvement District (BID), and announced a business pop-up program in our community.  Pop-Up Programs provide a way to attract new entrepreneurs to the community and allow those businesses to try our marketplace risk-free to determine if there is interest in converting to a long-term business opportunity in the city.  In November, Stephanie Starker was the program recipient and she opened ThatMom Creations, LLC at 427 E Main Street.  Our team recently had a chance to meet with Stephanie and we are pleased to announce she has signed a lease to continue her retail shop at that location.  If you are not familiar, Stephanie’s business customizes anything from T-shirts to home décor.  Please stop in and congratulate Stephanie on her decision and watch for details on the launch of our 2021 Pop Up Program coming soon!

The April 6, 2021 spring election is right around the corner and our Clerk’s office recently released important information about that election.  On Election Day voting will be held at the City Hall, located at 201 E Main Street. You may take the steps to enter the front of City Hall or enter the lower level-west entrance door to access the elevator. Voting hours are 7:00am to 8:00pm on April 6, 2021.   You can visit myvote.wi.gov to view your ballot.  Early voting runs March 23 to April 2 at City Hall from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day.  Absentee ballots can be requested by visiting myvote.wi.gov and clicking Vote Absentee.  The last day to request an Absentee ballot is April 1, 2021 by 5:00 p.m.  Your completed ballot must be in the hands of the Clerk by no later than 8:00 pm on Election Day.

Waupun Police Department recently publish some information that may be helpful to young families in our community.  They report that more than fifty percent of car seats are not used or installed correctly, noting that there are difference between Wisconsin law requirements and best practices. Free car seat checks can be arranged with Officer Ali Tipton by contacting her via e-mail ali@waupunpd.org or by phone 920-324-7911.  Please take advantage of this free service to keep the littlest members of our community safe!

Stay safe and we’ll talk again soon Waupun!
