Mayor's Community Update - 10/22/2018
Greetings! This week, I received a lot of questions regarding bulk pickup and why items were left curbside. Most items not picked up were items that did not appear on the list of approved items for pickup. To clarify, that list included furniture; rolled carpeting (4 ft maximum length); cabinets; countertops; mattresses/bed springs; non-metal doors; wood windows; and wooden playground equipment.
Items excluded included uncontainerized or piles of construction material; items such as clothing, small toys, and games; large appliances; Freon-containing items; tires; batteries; fluorescent light bulbs, TVs/DVD players/VCR; computer equipment; and electronic items banned from landfills. Small items not picked up that do not appear on the exclusion list should be disposed of by placing in your trash container with your regularly scheduled weekly trash pickup. Corrugated boxes left behind are considered recycling material and should be broken down and placed in your recycling container. We did request that Advanced Disposal make a final trip through the city to confirm that all allowable items were picked up in accordance with policy. City crews will be hanging door hangers this week on all properties that have items remaining curbside to explain the above process. I’ve noticed some televisions sitting curbside and, to reiterate, they are not allowable and are banned from landfills. Locally, Bargains Galore does recycle TVs, computers, etc. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
