Mayor's Community Update - 10/08/2018

Greetings! I’m pleased to welcome Sarah Van Buren to the role of part-time Economic Development Coordinator for the City of Waupun. Sarah holds a Master’s degree in Urban Planning from the University of Kansas and an undergraduate degree in International Studies from Jacksonville University. Most recently Sarah held the position of Associate Economic Development Planner for East Central WI Regional Planning Commission where she managed a $3.1M Department of Defense grant to develop a regional diversification strategy and provide outreach and assistance to the supply chain impacted by reduced manufacturing output from region’s largest defense manufacturer. Sarah’s expertise in planning and managing federal and state grants and systems will be highly beneficial to the economic development and capital improvement projects we have on the docket. Sarah currently serves on the City of Fond du Lac’s Plan Commission and has strong knowledge of how historic preservation and municipal code work to support community development. This position was approved as part of the 2018 budget.

In this role, Sarah will work with Kathy Schlieve and will be responsible for helping to implement the economic development strategic plan and will coordinate marketing and communication efforts for the city. Sarah lives in Fond du Lac with her husband and a daughter. Please help me extend a warm Waupun welcome to Sarah. 

Around town, Waupun Public Library is hosting game night on Thursday, October 11 from 4 to 8 p.m. All ages are welcome. On Friday and Saturday, October 12 and 13, Waupun Community Players will perform Drinking Habits 2 at the Waupun City Hall. And, on Saturday, October 13, come out to the Waupun Baseball Complex for the Kickin’ for Kevin annual fundraiser. Information about all these events and more can be found on the city’s website.
