Mayor's Community Update - 09/27/2018

Greetings! Department of Public Works staff reports that they have completed the final walk through on the Walker Street construction project and that the project is complete for the year. A final layer of asphalt will be added in the spring. Franklin Street resurfacing is scheduled to occur toward the end of this week, depending on weather.

At the most recent Committee of the Whole meeting of the Waupun Common Council, staff presented a preliminary draft of the 2019 budget. The proposal calls for a 3% increase in the levy with a majority of the increase directed to the capital fund to support continued road improvement. Specifically, we are planning at this time to reconstruct Madison Street at an estimated cost of $3.5M with an additional $1.1M needed to support storm water replacement. As I’ve previously communicated, we are anticipating that borrowing will be necessary to complete a project of this nature. The proposed budget calls for borrowing $2.9M to support the project. The final budget workshop will occur on October 23, 2018.

Storm cleanup continues. Both the City and Waupun Public Utility staff have submitted detailed documentation of costs incurred from the storm and Fond du Lac and Dodge Counties have been compiling costs The Counties will include these costs in their request for FEMA public assistance.
