Mayor's Community Update - 09/05/2018

Greetings! Work continues on storm recovery. Yesterday, I had an opportunity to sit down with department heads to debrief our emergency response to last week’s storm and at last night’s council meeting we heard updates from department heads. City staff will be doing a full walkthrough of the event and refining our emergency management response plan in late September. Here is a quick rundown of our current storm recovery efforts. As of this writing, all city streets are open. Brush pickup continues until further notice. Property owners should pile brush curbside on the terrace. If there is too much brush for the terrace to accommodate, brush should be piled on the resident side of the sidewalk and city crews will pull brush forward to complete cleanup. Dumpsters remain in place until Friday, September 7 for the purpose of disposing of household items damaged by the storm. Dumpsters are located at the City Garage and gates to access the dumpsters will be open each day from 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The city’s annual fall bulk pickup is planned for October 8, 9 and 10. Any items that remain after dumpster removal on September 7 can be placed curbside during the October bulk pickup period and they will be picked up during that time. Residents should report damage or request assistance by calling 2-1-1.

The City is gathering data to apply for the WI Disaster Fund which is a state-funded reimbursement program that allows local governmental units to recoup costs incurred while responding to and recovering from disaster events. We do not yet have a total of all costs associated with this event but will share that with the public when it is finalized. If you have questions or feedback about this process, I encourage you to contact your alderperson.

Around town, on Tuesday, September 11, WI Senator Dan Feyen will be at the City Hall from 5 to 6 p.m. Anyone interested in talking with Senator Feyen is encouraged to attend. See you around town!
