Mayor's Community Update - 07/23/2018
Greetings! An aging-friendly community is the goal of a new project spearheaded by the Waupun Community Coalition on Aging. The City of Waupun partnered with Agnesian HealthCare, a member of SSM Health, to create this group after reviewing demographic projections for our community as part of our comprehensive planning process. The Waupun Community Coalition on Aging was awarded a planning grant from a private foundation and is collaborating with the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Nursing and the Wisconsin Office of Rural Health on this work. This project will help the community complete an assessment to identify needs of older adults and their caregivers and formulate a plan to support the goal of increasing the number of older adults who are able to remain independent in a residence of their choosing within the community. The project will also look at the needs of caregivers who are essential for this population to age in place. The coalition is currently seeking input from the community and is asking adults and caregivers who have a stake in the independence and wellbeing of older adults to complete a survey. More information about this project along with a link to the survey can be found online on the city’s website. Paper copies of the survey can be obtained from the Waupun City Hall, Waupun Public Library and the Waupun Senior Center. For more information, contact Kathy Schlieve at Kathy@cityofwaupun.org or call 920-324-7912.
Around town, on Wednesday, July 25, at 6 p.m. the Waupun Public Library will host local author Jean Baxter who will share her book Salvageable.
Additionally, on Thursday, July 26, Waupun Fine Arts, Inc. will host their final concert in the Park, featuring Big Cedar Bluegrass Band. The event will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Dodge Park. I hope to see you there!
See you around town! ~ Mayor Julie Nickel
