Mayor's Community Update - 05/28/2018

Greetings!  Did you know that the Waupun Public Library now has new, free resources to support your continuing education and personal development goals?  Our public library is part of the Monarch Library system which has acquired Gale Courses from Gale, part of Cengage Learning. Through this unique program, residents of Waupun can access instructor-led, online courses through their local library’s website and through the Monarch Catalog.   There are more than 360 online courses available to inspire and engage life-long learning in our community.  Gale Courses offer access to hundreds of instructor-led online courses covering everything from health and wellness to creative writing, computer programming, GED test preparation and much more. Gale Courses are developed by expert instructors, many of whom are currently working at universities around the country, and have continuous enrollment dates.   Library patrons can use a current library card to enroll at no cost. Courses run for six weeks, with two new lessons released weekly, and new sessions begin every month. Sign up for a session and pick the start date that best fits in your schedule. If you are not able to complete a course, you may enroll again for a different session. The courses are entirely web-based with comprehensive lessons, quizzes, and assignments. A dedicated professional instructor coordinates every course by pacing learners, answering questions, giving feedback, and facilitating discussions.  Coursework can be completed from library computers or remotely from home computers.  For more information about the catalog of courses offered or to enroll in a course, visit the Waupun Public Library’s website and click the Gale Courses link.  If you don’t have a current library card, stop in at the Waupun Public Library, sign up and get started today!

Around town, Waupun’s Memorial Day parade will be held on Monday, May 28, beginning at 9 a.m.   Also, the Waupun Historical Society is introducing a new Civil War Exhibit on that day.  More information can be found on the Community Tab of the City’s website.

See you around town! ~ Mayor Julie Nickel
