Mayor's Community Update - 04/09/2018
Greetings! When this latest batch of snow melts, we’ll all start the springtime hustle and bustle of yard work, outdoor activities and recreation events. Amidst the extra time outside, be sure to stay informed about city news and upcoming events by checking out our City of Waupun newsletter. We have a new format and new distribution schedule (weekly) so, if you haven’t yet, please go to cityofwaupun.org and click on “Newsletter Sign Up”. If your group or non-profit organization wants to submit information for the City Newsletter, the deadline is Thursday at 5 p.m. and articles should be sent to communitynews@cityofwaupun.org.
I’d like to thank the BID (Business Improvement District) and CDA (Community Development Authority) groups for their year-round work to ensure downtown looks presentable and appealing to community members and visitors through the grants they offer to local businesses for façade and signage updates. I’m excited to share that this spring BID & CDA are starting work with the City on a new StreetScaping Plan. This project will assess downtown and identify ways to improve amenities (streetscaping furniture, way-finding signs), address pedestrian enhancement and vegetation ideas, and explore the redevelopment of underutilized property for either a community event/gathering space or new private mixed-use development.
Here's your last reminder for spring bulk pickup -- scheduled for April 9, 10 and 11. Bulk items will be picked up on your normal trash pick-up date and may not be placed on the curb more than 24 hours prior to your pick-up date. Full rules are listed on the City Website.
Finally, thank you for re-electing me as mayor! I’ve enjoyed working with the council, city departments, school and various groups within Waupun to make this a safe and fun place to live, work and play, and I look forward to serving you for another two years.
See you around town! ~ Mayor Julie Nickel
