Mayor's Community Update - 03/19/2018

Greetings! At this week’s Board of Public Works meeting there were several items of importance on the agenda that I’d like to call to your attention. The first is a review of our storm water permits annual report. The report details our management efforts related to meeting storm water mandates from the DNR. The report can be viewed online or at the city hall if you are interested in learning more. Secondly, the DPW and administrative team presented an update to our road improvement plan. Of particular importance, they worked collaboratively with the Waupun Utility group to review our current road plan and were able to identify several cost saving measures that helped to reduce the total liability on road maintenance for taxpayers.

There are a large number of improvements that are essential to maintaining our infrastructure and staff will be working with the common council to review funding alternatives to move these projects forward. The mill rate increase taken this past year certainly does not cover all of the needs that exist but was a positive action step needed to begin supporting a planned improvement program.

With spring around the corner, we are getting a number of inquiries on dates for bulk pickup and spring yard waste collection. The dates are planned as follows. Spring bulk pickup will be held on April 9, 10, and 11. Spring yard cleanup is weather dependent but planned for April 16 through May 4. More information can be found on the city’s website.

Around town, there are a variety of events happening at the Waupun Senior Center and on Thursday, March 15, and Friday, March 16, Waupun Public Library will hold movie nights. Check out all the details on the community page of our website. I hope to see you there!
