Mayor's Community Update - 03/14/2019

Greetings! Spring bulk pickup will be held on April 8, 9 and 10, 2019. Bulk Pick-up is a service that is provided to all City of Waupun residential properties (4 units and under). Bulk items will be picked up on your normal trash pick-up date. Items may be placed curbside 24 hours prior to your scheduled pick-up date. Accepted items include things like furniture, rolled carpeting (4’ maximum length), cabinets, countertops, mattresses and box springs, non-metal doors, wood windows, and wooden playground equipment that would not fit in garbage or recycling containers. Historically we’ve run into difficulty with items being place curbside that are not on the acceptable items list and, during each bulk pickup our staff has spends an inordinate amount of time dealing with compliance matters for this program. This year, we will make a change to our process to reduce time spent on compliance. If items do not meet bulk pickup guidelines (as noted on our website), a picture will be taken of the unaccepted item(s) and a door hanger will be hung notifying the resident that they have 3 days to remove item(s) from the curb. Items that we’ve seen frequently left curbside that are not accepted in bulk pickup include things like construction materials, filled garbage bags, and televisions and other appliances not accepted in a landfill. If you have questions prior to bulk pickup days, please review information on the city’s website or contact City Hall. Additionally, on April 8, 9 and 10, 2019, Advanced Disposal will provide three 30 yard containers for wood related items (such as construction lumber, loose lumber). The dumpsters will be located at the Department of Public Works Garage, 903 N. Madison St. from 8am—3 pm on those days. Materials other than wood related items will not be accepted and will be turned away. Residents will be required to show proof of residency. Spring yard cleanup is weather dependent but planned for April 15 through May 3.

Congratulations to all area sports teams on their accomplishments this winter season! You make us proud! Around town, the Waupun Public Library will be hosting a class on making cheese curds from scratch on Tuesday, March 26, at 6 p.m. I hope to see you there!
