Mayor's Community Update - 03/06/2018
At recent meetings, the Common Council approved the reallocation of an existing part-time position to create a part-time accounting position. I am pleased to announce the promotion of Michelle Kast to the role of accountant. Previously, Michelle supported the accounting functions of the city but also provided administrative support to the city administrator and economic development director. In her new role, Michelle will assume day-to-day responsibilities for all accounting functions. Prior to joining the city, Michelle held the role of director of financial services for Clearview Nursing Home. She is well positioned to assume this new role. Please join me in congratulating Michelle on her new role. To address the gap in economic development support, the Common Council approved the addition of a part-time economic development coordinator position as part of the 2018 budget. We will begin our search for this part-time position immediately.
This week the city finalized creation of a new Tax Increment District (TID) that will focus on fostering development on the west side. The plan will help the city use tax increment financing to support the development of a banquet facility, explore expansion of housing options, enhance storm water management resources to meet state mandates, and create a redevelopment plan for the Park View Plaza shopping strip which has a large number of vacant stores.
Around town, there are a variety of events happening at the Waupun Senior Center and on Thursday, March 15, and Friday, March 16, Waupun Public Library will hold movie nights. Check out all the details on the community page of our website. I hope to see you there!
