Mayor's August 10, 2020 Update

Mayor Julie Nickel

Greetings!   Recently our Police Department launched a vacant house check program. This is a no cost service for residents in our community that provides extra set of eyes on your home when you are planning to be away.  If you notify the Waupun Police Department through this program, they will make periodic checks on your residence while you are gone and will contact any emergency number you place on file should a problem be discovered.  The Waupun Police Department website contains helpful safety guidelines for residents to protect their home while away and has a link to the form you can fill out to activate this service.

On Monday, August 3, 2020, a notice was published on all city facilities requiring masks be worn when entering public buildings.  This notice is published in accordance with Governor Evers Executive Order #82 and corresponding Emergency Order #1 mandating the wearing of face coverings when indoors and not in a private residence, with some exceptions, to slow the spread of COVID-19. This includes confined spaces open to the public where individuals congregate, including but not limited to outdoor bars, outdoor restaurants, taxis, public transit, ride-share vehicles, and outdoor park structures. The order took effect at 12:01 a.m. on August 1, 2020.   Whether you agree or disagree with this order, please be respectful of others who may have differing opinions by complying with the mandate.

Around town, many events continue to be cancelled in response to COVID-19.  However, there are still lots of fun things that you can do with your family while enjoying the great outdoors.  Protect Wisconsin Waterways is hosting a fishing photo contest in August with Rock River Bait Box LLC and Pike Pole Fishing Guide Service!   Submit a photo of your favorite catch during the month of August from any waterway within the Rock River Basin for your chance to win a guided fishing trip or gift card. For more information about the rules of the contest and how to enter visit Waupun Municipal Government Facebook page or the city’s website.  I also just posted an interesting bit of history on the Horicon Marsh on my Facebook page that you might find of interest.  There is lots to explore right in our backyard that provides an opportunity to keep us active and I hope you make time over these final months of summer to explore these local treasures.

Stay safe and we’ll talk again soon Waupun!
