Mayor's Community Update - 12/15/2018
Greetings! If you visit the city’s website in the near future, you will see a new look and feel. Earlier this year, we began work on upgrades to our website to accomplish a number of goals. As you access the new site, you will find improved functionality to enhance the way to obtain services from the city. The first improvement you will notice is more robust search functionality, making it easy for you to obtain the information you need with little effort. While new functionality will launch in phases over the coming months, at some point in the future you will be able to access and pay bills, schedule park shelters, and more – all online from the comfort of your home. Additionally, we worked to improve mandated web ADA accessibility, minimize cybersecurity threats, update our brand, and strengthen records retention and archival capabilities. On the branding front, we’re also working on expanding our tourism footprint and are very excited to share that we have signed a contract with Discover Wisconsin to participate in a show featuring the Horicon Marsh where Waupun will have a featured segment. Planning is underway and video production will occur in 2019 with the show scheduled to air in April of 2020.
Last week, staff had a chance to visit with and talk to all Senior Democratic Seminar students at Waupun Senior High School. This is a service learning class focused on ways students can engage with their community. As part of the project, students will be working on a community project. Each year, the efforts of our youth have a large impact on our community. Please take a moment to thank these students when you see them working around the community.
Staff recently met with Advanced Disposal to discuss how we can improve the bulk pickup process. There are a number of changes being worked on and we will communicate more prior to the spring bulk pickup. Finally, the WI-DOT recently held a State Highway 68 construction meeting at the Library. This road is scheduled for a mill and overlay work in 2021. In addition to road resurfacing, wheel chair ramps at each intersection in Waupun will be updated to meet ADA standards.
Information on upcoming events can be found on the community calendar of the city’s website.
See you around town! ~ Mayor Julie Nickel
