Clone of Mayor's Community Update - 2/1/20

Greetings!  Effective March 6, 2020, Jared Oosterhouse will assume the role of General Manager and Finance Manager at Waupun Utilities.  The appointment is effective with the upcoming retirement of current General Manager Randy Posthuma.  Randy began his career as a journeyman lineworker with Waupun Utilities in 1990 and has served as General Manager since 2013.  Jared joined Waupun Utilities in 2013 as Finance Manager and in 2014 took on additional responsibilities with the City of Waupun as Finance Director and Treasurer.  With this advancement, Jared will discontinue his role as Finance Director and Treasurer for the City of Waupun.   Jared began his professional career in public accounting where he spent five years in audit and consulting practices.  Prior to joining Waupun Utilities, he served as the Accounting Manager for Palmer Johnson Power Systems, a distributor of off-highway powertrain components, located in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. Jared is a CPA and holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with majors in Accounting and Management from Marian University.   Please join me in congratulating Jared on this well-deserved promotion and thanking Randy for his service.

During January, we experienced consistent snowfalls and received a higher volume of citizen complaints about sidewalks not being shoveled around the community.  For safety reasons, we need to keep sidewalks free of snow and ice.  As a reminder, City of Waupun Ordinance 7.07 (1) requires the property owners/lessees of every lot or parcel of land in the City to clear sidewalk within 24 hours after the end of the snow event.  Furthermore, Ordinance 7.07 (3) (b) outlines the that if property owner/lessee fails to remove snow or ice from sidewalks that the City may remove such snow or ice and cause the cost of such removal to be charged to the owner of the property.  Please remember that contractors hired to remove snow are only doing their jobs and if you have questions or comments that you can always contact staff at city hall at 920.324.7900.

Around town, plan to attend the February Winter Farmer’s Market on Saturday, February 8, at the Waupun Senior Center, 9 a.m. to noon.  Additionally, the Waupun Lions Club will hold their annual “Las Vegas Night” that same day from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Parish Center.  More information about events around town can be found on the community calendar on the city’s website.  I hope to see you around town!
